Red Wigglers (Eisenia fetida)(older spelling: Foetida) – a.k.a: Red Worm, Tiger Worm, Manure Worm, Composting Worm, Tiger Worm, Brandling Worm, Trout Worm, Panfish Worm, Red Californian Earthworm, etc. Red Wigglers are part of the epigean species of worms. They are the most common and most widely used composting worm. They are very easy to manage, multiply at an extreme rate if space and food materials are available. And are very tolerant of a wide range of temperatures, and can process organic matter very fast.
They can be used as a bait worm when a smaller worm is desired, i.e. approximately 3 inches, they are known for their vigorous wiggling while on the hook. They also make a great supplemental food source high in protein for fish, reptiles, and birds. But they are best known for their vermicomposting abilities.
Species disclaimer –
It is impossible to guarantee 100% pure worm species with any type of composting worms. We have not received any complaints of cross contamination. But there is always a chance of receiving a few “other” species in your order. These “other” species are usually also great composters. Once again, to date, we have not received any complaints on this issue but it does happen in the worm industry. While we raise both Red Wigglers and European Nightcrawler worms here at our own farm, we will occasionally drop ship the worms to you from one of our partner worm farms.
