European Nightcrawlers (Eisenia hortensis or Dendrobaena veneta) – a.k.a: Belgian Nightcrawlers, Euros, or ENC’s. The European nightcrawler is from the same family as the Red Wiggler (Eisenia fetida) but is more than twice the size. They get 3-6 inches long and twice the diameter. They are very durable, and also very tolerant of a wide range of conditions.
They are good composting worms and some have said that they are the best fishing worm in the world. It’s been said that they can withstand brackish waters and even ice fishing as bait. If you are looking for a fantastic all around worm that makes a great fishing worm and is a great composting worm the European Nightcrawler is your worm.
Species disclaimer –
It is impossible to guarantee 100% pure worm species with any type of composting worms. We have not received any complaints of cross contamination. But there is always a chance of receiving a few “other” species in your order. These “other” species are usually also great composters. Once again, to date, we have not received any complaints on this issue but it does happen in the worm industry. While we raise both Red Wigglers and European Nightcrawler worms here at our own farm, we will occasionally drop ship the worms to you from one of our partner worm farms.
